What sizes of waste bins do you offer for dental practices?

Trust Hygiene offers a selection of the latest dental waste bins, with sizes ranging from 5-7 litres for sharps waste, with options to go larger with 30-60 or 240-360 litres. For amalgam waste, our containers range from 1-3 litres and other specialist bins for pharmaceutical and cytotoxic waste range from 5-30 litres. We can help you get the ideal sized waste bins for your dental practice. For more information, talk to one of our team members.

How often should dental waste be collected?

Different types of dental waste will need to be collected at different schedules. Clinical and hazardous dental waste, including sharps, amalgam and other infectious materials, should be collected either weekly or fortnightly. This will depend on your storage capacity and waste volume. Non-hazardous dental waste will require less frequent collections, with monthly collections suitable provided the stored waste is secure and follows rules set in The Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005.

What are the penalties for improper dental waste disposal?

Non-compliance with dental waste disposal and management will result in serious consequences including significant fines, legal action and potential imprisonment. The higher the risk you are posing to public health, the more severe the consequences. As a dental waste management company, we ensure your compliance with proper waste management practices including licensed waste collection, issuing documentation, and disposing of waste in an environmentally responsible way.

Are there eco-friendly options for dental waste disposal?

At Trust Hygiene, we always aim to protect the environment with our dental and amalgam waste collection services by recycling all materials that we can at our waste transfer station. Many of our dental waste containers are also made from recycled plastics and we ensure our collections are optimally mapped to reduce emissions as much as possible.

Can amalgam waste be recycled?

Yes, amalgam waste can be recycled. During amalgam waste disposal, the mercury in the waste is classed as a hazardous to the environment if not disposed of properly, and recycling involves separating the mercury from other waste components. The separated mercury is purified and can then be reused or stored, with any separated metal components also recycled if possible.

Is Trust Hygiene licensed to handle hazardous dental waste?

Trust Hygiene is a fully licensed waste management company and ADR-licensed, meaning we are qualified to transport dangerous goods including dental waste to be disposed of. Each team member is also comprehensively trained on all COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations, and we are an accredited member of the HWMA (Healthcare Waste Management Association).
