What bins should pharmaceutical waste be disposed of in?
Different pharmaceutical waste streams require specific bins for disposal. Non-hazardous medicines and items contaminated with non-hazardous medicines need to be stored in blue (or blue lidded) waste bins. Purple pharmaceutical waste bins (or purple lidded) are used for disposing of hazardous medicines and products contaminated by cytotoxic and cytostatic medicines. Controlled drugs can be disposed of using controlled drug kits, where they will be denatured and then incinerated via pharmi bins.
